Breaking Altitude Limits! DJI's transportation drone successfully completes high-altitude transport tests at Mount Everest Base Camp, setting a new record for civilian drone transport and supporting high-altitude climbing, rescue, and environmental protection efforts.
DJI has achieved another milestone in drone technology! The company recently announced the first high-altitude transport test by a drone on the southern slope of Mount Everest, with the DJI FlyCart 30 (FC30) drone completing round-trip transport tests between altitudes of 5,300 meters and 6,000 meters. This achievement sets a new record for civilian drone transport at the highest altitude.
The latest test results highlighted the FC30’s exceptional stability during flights at an altitude of 6,000 meters in the highlands, as well as its efficient capabilities in round-trip material transport and waste removal. The tests showed that the FC30 reached a maximum altitude of 6,191.8 meters in the Everest region and could steadily carry a load of 15 kilograms at an altitude of 6,000 meters.
Challenging the Limits: First Drone Transport at 6,000 Meters
DJI's FC30 transportation drone, launched in August 2023, quickly gained widespread application across dozens of countries and regions worldwide. With its intelligent, safe, and cost-effective transport solutions, it has successfully solved transportation challenges in diverse scenarios, including mountainous terrain, coastal areas, emergencies, and logistics. Between April 25 and May 1, 2024, the DJI team conducted a week-long test of high-altitude flying and transport capabilities at and above the base camp on the southern side of Mount Everest.
Crossing Everest's "Terrifying Icefall": Establishing a 2.7 km Aerial Transport Route
To accumulate experience for routine drone transport in high-altitude areas, the DJI team decided to tackle the transport task from the South Base Camp to Camp C1. This route crosses the Khumbu Icefall, the highest icefall on Earth and the first major obstacle on the southern climbing route of Everest. The transport drone can carry 15 kilograms of supplies in just 12 minutes, day or night, offering a new solution for reducing human casualties.
Test Results and Future Prospects
DJI's drone transport test not only achieved technological and product breakthroughs but also provided valuable data for routine drone transport in the Everest region. DJI’s Senior Corporate Strategy Director, Xue Nan Zhang, stated: "Drones can provide logistical support for commercial climbing and reduce environmental pollution, protecting the natural environment."
